Welcome

The harp is an ancient Middle East instrument with deep roots in Jewish history closely identified with King David.
The first harp contest ever in the world took place in Israel in 1959 and triennially ever since. The contest moved the harp to its proper place and encouraged composers to write for it.
Many of the contests first winners hold major roles in concert halls and academies.
Esther Herlitz, Honorary President

As the recently elected Chairperson of the International Harp Contest, I am delighted to host you all in our country. Past competitions have given the Israeli public the opportunity to discover the elegance and beauty of the instrument, and the virtuosity of contestants.
We are preparing two weeks filled with thrilling musical events, in which you will all participate.
Looking forward to greeting you here in 2012.
